Ohio Independent Laboratories operates two airflow chambers, a 500° F temperature degradation oven, duct impact and damper cycling fixtures, and a torque profiling apparatus. Our ambient airflow chamber is equipped with a 350 HP fan capable of generating a max flow of 75,000 CFM @ 12.5" WG, a max pressure of 32" WG @ 30,000 CFM, and a max pressure at shutoff of 28" WG, and a 100 HP fan capable of generating a max flow of 8,000 CFM @ 15" WG, a max pressure of 45" WG @ 2,500 CFM, and a max pressure at shutoff of 45" WG. Our heated airflow chamber is equipped with a 100 HP variable speed fan capable of generating 80,000 CFM at 6.5" WG at 350° F.

Fire, Smoke and Fire/Smoke Dampers

Operating under UL's Witnessed Test Data Program (WTDP), OIL is qualified to conduct Dynamic Closure and Duct Impact testing per UL 555 Standard For Safety Fire Dampers, and Cycling, Temperature Degradation, Structural Integrity, Leakage and Operations testing per UL 555S Standard For Safety Smoke Dampers.

Duct Erosion

OIL is qualified to conduct Impact and Erosion testing for Duct Board, Duct Sock, Fibrous Glass and Flexible Ducts per UL 181 Standard For Safety Factory-Made Air Ducts and Air Connectors.

Air Performance and Leakage

OIL is an AMCA International Accredited Laboratory, qualified to conduct tests in accordance with AMCA Standard 500-D & 500-L for Intake Chamber Figures 5.1 & 5.4, Exhaust Chamber Figures 5.2, 5.3 & 5.5 and Low Leak Chamber Figures 5.4.

Torque Profiling

Want to know exactly how much torque it takes to operate your damper under airflow? Ask Big Joe! Rated for 800 in-lbs of torque, Big Joe will drive your damper open and closed, recording the torque and position within the tolerances defined for the Torque Compensation Method per UL555S Standard For Safety Smoke Dampers.
